9 Useful Plugins For New Bloggers

by Alison Quine on January 5, 2011

Which plugins do you need to add to your blog when you’ve just started blogging?

Here’s a list of the ones I added to my blog and the reasons why.

XML Sitemap Generator Plugin

This makes your site Google friendly and makes sure all your pages are indexed correctly.

Editorial Calendar

Organise your posts, move them around and view your schedule up to three weeks in advance.

Here’s a video demonstration:

The Akismet Plugin

Gets rid of spam messages in your comments. This will save you a lot of time.

Subscribe To Comments Plugin

Lets people subscribe to your blog comments if they are following a particular post.  A good way to get people to keep coming back to your blog.

The Sociable Plugin

Allows your readers to spread the word
about your blog posts.

TweetMeme Plugin

Gives your readers the option to retweet your posts. Great for getting extra traffic to your blog.

The FaceBook Like Button Plugin

Lets people who have a Facebook Account, click to show they like your post.  The link of your post is then added to their FaceBook stream and their friends will also be able to see your post’s link.

Useful Plugins for video:

The Smart YouTube Plugin

Easily embed YouTube videos on your blog.

The Genki YouTube Comments Plugin

Automatically adds comments from your YouTube videos straight to your blog posts.

Flash Video Player Plugin

Use this to customise the media player of the YouTube videos on your blog.

Which plugins do you use on your blog?  Maybe I’ve missed a few good ones!
